Blender 3D

Woohoo, Blender 2.44 has been released with SSS (Sub Surface Scattering). This is just an awesome program, but it isnt for the feint hearted. It does take a while to learn how to use it properly.

To say blender is a 3D modelling program is to demean it by an order of magnitude. Yes it does 3D modelling, and it also does video compositing, and audio editing, video editing and 3D game creation. It is a multimedia powerhouse application. How much does it cost? Nothing. It's free. Just download, install and run it.

It runs on MS OS, Mac OS, and Linux, and it looks the same on all of them. If you can use it on one platform it works on all the others too. So it needs a super-computer to run on then? No, it runs on the humblest of machines, quite adeqately, Although having more horse-power does improve render times.

Its a fine example of how well thought out, well written software does a great job. Compare and contrast with MS Bloatware.

Where can I get it?
