I like Inkscape. It's a great free program for vector graphics, but it can be a bit confusing at times to do certain things. Like the ubiquitous drop shadow. Woohoo, Blender 2.44 has been released with SSS (Sub Surface Scattering). This is just an awesome program, but it isnt for the feint hearted. It does take a while to learn how to use it properly. To say blender is a 3D modelling program is to demean it by an order of magnitude. Yes it does 3D modelling, and it also does video compositing, and audio editing, video editing and 3D game creation.
